My Favorite Internet Search Tools by Category:

• WORLD WIDE WEB. The Web is a marvelous way to provide information to the millions of Internet users worldwide. Because there is no central "index" of the Web, however, it can sometimes be hard to find what you are looking for. When that happens, use a "search engine."

  Back in the early days of the Internet, I used to provide in this web page links to popular search engines you could compare to one another. With the rise of the dominance of the Google search engine, however, linking to the "also ran" search engines seems sort of pointless!

  For general web searches, I recommend Google.

• BLOGOSPHERE. To search the emergent self-publishing world of "blogs," try the Technorati web site.

• USENET. To search the Usenet "newsgroups" messages, try the Google Groups search engine. The Usenet contains countless millions of internet "bulletin board" messages organized into thousands of categories. Type "Brock Wood" into this search engine to see some of my really old posts on Broncos football!

• GOOD OLD YAHOO! Can't find what you want using one of the above tools? The good old Yahoo! web site, which attempts to cull and categorize the millions of sites on the web into an "index," might lead you to what you are looking for.
