Other Neat Stuff:
- SyncBack Freeware Data Backup Utility. Who knew that backing up your data could be this easy! Get yourself some piece of mind - for free. Download and use SyncBack to back up your critical data files every night while you sleep.
- Copernic Desktop Search Utility. Now here is a tool I rely on every day - and it is free. Copernic indexes all of the data files (and I mean *all* of them - PDF's, Word documents, spreadsheets, music, pictures, e-mail, browsed web pages, and more) on your computer. It them allows you to do smart searches of all of these documents at the click of a mouse. Can't remember where you saved the Jones deposition transcript? Let Copernic find it for you - at the click of a mouse! Copernic even indexes the files on *other* networked computers. Did I mention that it is free?
- AVG Anti-virus Software. The best, least troubleprone, most affordable anti-virus software available. Get it and keep viruses, trojans, and worms from destroying your valuable work product! The freeware version is available for personal use. A mere $53 gets you the registered version with advanced features and 2 years worth of updates. A bargain.
- Ad-Aware Anti-spyware Software. In some ways, a "spyware" infection is worse than a traditional computer virus. Spyware lurks, slowing down your system. Sometimes it is just a nuisance, doing irritating things such as watching your web surfing habits so that the spyware authors can sell your e-mail address to spammers who want to send you junk e-mails. Sometimes spyware is truly ill-willed, looking for information you enter into your computer such as credit card numbers and passwords. Get rid of it all, weekly! Download the free Ad-Aware program and set a calendar reminder to run it once per week. Start the spyware scan and go home or go to lunch. You'll be glad you did. There is a freeware version and a commercial version with more features.
